This course deals with linguistic difficulties that arise in content created in the healthcare sphere for social purposes, like disease prevention, educating populations at risk and their healthcare providers, underserved populations, specific-patient caregivers, etc. The course is based on real-life excerpts focusing on the impact and actual scope of the terminology used in materials disclosed by international health organizations, such as the World Health Organization, the Panamerican Health Organization, and some of their programs and initiatives. The presentation will discuss the different shades of meanings that ordinary source terms depict in the public healthcare sector, with some illustrative examples in Spanish.
